The answer is blowin' in the wind

I finally gave in and got some questions from Phil. I asked him some last week and he's left a few comments on my blog along the lines of "...if you want any questions then just ask", and so I knew that he REALLY wanted to get some pearls of wisdom out of me, or make me squirm. The questions have really put me on the spot.

Bloggerland is full of people I have never met, but after frequenting their blogs on a daily basis I feel like I know them fairly well (well, what they decide to write about themselves). In the case of Phil, of Freespurge fame, I DO know him. We met at University (I was working for the Students' Union running one of their bars, and he was on the Exec Committee), and actually started our blogs at the same time, along with another friend Dave.

I [boasting] have kept my blog going along since that time (around 1 1/2 years) but both Phil and Dave disappeared, Phil in Jan '05, and Dave in Oct '04. I'd given up on both of them returning, but Phil made a comeback this Summer. So without further delay here are the questions and my answers.

Question 1.
Death sentence. Good, bad, or necissary? Discuss.

Catgorically my answer is 'no to the death sentance'. It is a very bad thing. I don't know the figures but I'm sure that there's been quite a few people on 'Death Row' who have been aquitted, who were proved innocent by new technology which wasn't available at the time of their detainment.

But some people are guilty, and some of very very bad things. Sometimes revenge will pop into my head and I'll think it was better if they died, a horrible death too, but what would that make me?

I'm sure executions help the families of murder victims, so they can gain 'closure', but in the long run will it ease their pain?

I do think there's something wrong with the prison system though and that some prisoners get off too lightly [watch out I'm getting all Daily Mail here!] and never have to deal with the crimes they committed, never have to meet the relatives of their victims. Could they still contribute to our society even if they are deemed monstors? What is the alternative way of paying their debt?

I don't know the answer to that but in the meantime I have to say no to the Death penalty.

Question 2.
What's the one thing that you wished you had said to someone but never did?

I think the person would've been my Grandfather on my Mum's side, who died when I was around 11. And I would've just liked to have said that I loved him. As a kid you take loads of things for granted and don't look to the future, just taking each day as it comes, and I wish I'd got to spend more time with him and been able to grow up with him as he was a great person. He was the first person i knew who died.

Question 3.
You're in a room with all the world leaders of Earth. You've been asked to speak on behalf of the masses. What you say next will change the face of Human society, what is it?

I would probably say:

"One Love! One Heart!
Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);
Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel allright;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo!
Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);
There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):
Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,
Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?
One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!
What about - ? Let's get together and feel all right
As it was in the beginning (One Love!);
So shall it be in the end (One Heart!),
All right!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
One more thing!
Let's get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),
So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).
Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner;
There ain't no hiding place from the Father of Creation.
Sayin': One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)
What about the - ? Let's get together and feel all right.
I'm pleadin' to mankind! (One Love!);
Oh, Lord! (One Heart) Wo-ooh!
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right.
Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Let's get together and feel all right"
Good enough for you?

Question 4.
Name a book that changed your life for good or for ill.

This is a tricky one. I suppose it could be something as mundane as a story book at school, thus enabling me to actually read and write, but I think I'll go for 'Stupid White Men' by Michael Moore, a critique of the 2000 USA elections where he believes Bush was fraudulantly elected as President. I know some of it biased and to get the whole story you will need to read a few more books from different sources, but it opened me up to the fact that USA is not A-OK (sorry Trong Van Din), and the problem's associated with politics.

Question 5.
Of all the women you know, who's the one you want to sleep with most?

Fuck me, what a way to put me on the spot. I love women, that's a fact, but the strange thing is that there hasn't been anyone I'd want to sleep with for quite a while. I've been off the scene for a bit, but I do go out and see women whom I'd like carnal relations with, but it is just lust, pure animal hormones, seeking some sexual gratification. I could probably give you 50 names of those types of women. But I can honestly say that there's no one that I'm "keeping my eye on", no one I really want to get involved with, and so to cop out of your question, there's no one I want to sleep with....at the moment.

But......I'm sure someone will come along, who'll turn my head, someone I least expect ,whom I'll want to get to know better, discover who they are, grow to love each other and then......
FUCK LIKE RABBITS!

Shiny answers Adem.
For me I'd go for something that Josh Lyman said on the west wing. He was asked if he agreed with the Death Penalty, he said no, instead he'd make watch home movies of the people they'd kill, every night before bed.
Your answer for q3 was very moving. But q5? Seriously? I can think of loads of girls we both know that I know you'd hop on the good foot and do the bad thing with.

If I did actually list the girls then I might crach the internet!

That's more honest. You are, of course, forgetting VB Jess.

come on, list the girls.

That might make your life hideous but may well entertain us for days...

Surely we can at least kick things of with Tim's sister, Emily. And his mum. And his girlfriend, Pippa, while we are at it. Hi Tim!

And what about Lucy from the pub. Eh, eh...

Ah Phil, see you're talking about girls at Uni now. I admit there were quite a few who I fancied but as usual, my unrequited advances were spurned and I fancies were simply that and I grew out of them.

Now Jonny's getting close to the mark. It's all fun taking the micky out of Tim and his 'fit' family ,and it would be cool to have the mum and the daughter!
Lucy is a very pretty girl but I'm not too sure if there's much upstairs.

Can you name anymore?

The only reason your advances were spurned is because you'd ask Jess if you could shag her. And she was gay...

Could I name women-folk that I know that I want to sleep with? Hell yes! But I wasn't asked the question. Sorry. :)
