I was sad too. It was a family passion, handed down from his father and shared with his wife and children. He was actually filming a sequence for his daughter's show when it happened. He wasn't fighting with crocs or big fish; he looked after them and educated people about them. Dangerous? Yes. But then a lot of things are and you can get hit by a bus tomorrow, etc., etc. Bottom line is that he led a life that was fulfilling for him (and his family) and aided conservation efforts. A death like this was to be expected in all likelihood, but it's still a sudden shock.

He might have been a very nice man, but if I had young kids, I wouldn't be fighting with crocodiles or big fish.
Limited sympathy from me, I am afraid. If you play with fire....
I can't say I've actually ever really watched his TV shows, but it is strange when someone who you know [in a vague way] dies prematurely.
is it bad that I've been earworming a certain Gerry Anderson theme tune all day?
It's darwinism in action, innit. You roll the dice like that often enough, sooner or later....

Bonkers, enthusiastic and a true eccentric. One of a long line of crazy experts (Magnus Pyke, David Bellamy, Heinz Wolf, etc.) to liven up TV.
I was sad to hear about it, if I'm honest. My Brother saw his movie and thought it was brilliant.
