it's off the hook

I'm going fishing tomorrow at Deal with Ian, Andy, and Ben, and we're all going to squeeze into my car at 10am.

I got the bait this morning and so I've got 120 lugworms and about 10 squid in my fridge.... yummy.

Shoot that poison arrow

I popped up the pub last night after 5-aside footy to meet Ant who was taking part in a St. Georges Week Quiz. His team was languishing in last place [5 of 5 at the halfway point] at that time, and I got myself a cordial and soda [it was a school night after all] and joined the team, titled 'Stud and the Muffins'. Tom soon joined us and we managed to finish in a very mediocre 3rd [3 of 5], thanks to the fresh injection of useless knowledge provided by yours truly [I did get some right, honest].

After the quiz Tom mentioned that he'd seen my blog entry about the stuff I want to do and said that he was well up for camping and also the archery. I don't mind doing stuff by myself but it's always nice to have someone to go with, and so I'm going to try and do archery in the next few weeks. There's been an archery shop near where I live for years now, but I must admit I thought it was closed because I'd never actually seen anyone go there due to the fact that it is down an alley. Never narrow-minded of me. Well I just did a simple search in google of 'archery ramsgate' and they have a website!! I've sent them an email to find out more, and may pop in later today.

The wheels are turning.

Days of enjoyment to which everyone cheers

What normally happens is I talk about all the stuff I want to do over summer but in reality I never get around to any of it and feel bitterly disappointed when the season changes and it starts getting colder and darker again.

With a view to this I am going to draw up a list of things I want to do over the following months. None of the things I want to do are huge but they are things that will keep me happy. If I can cross most of them off by the end of Summer then I'll be really chuffed and will be a much better person.

I'll be putting the list on my right-hand menu bar so that whenever I go to my blog I can see all the stuff I haven't done and give myself a kick up the arse. I really think this will work!

I'l be adding more things to the list when I think of them.

If everybody had an ocean pt. 2

I had a follow up dream to the one from yesterday. This one had more to do with actually going to the Algarve. I was with an ex [the one I actually went to Albufeira with in 2002] and we were talking about going away and somehow we ended up at the airport. I was saying that it's be cool to go away but it was a bit short notice, and didn't have anything with us except for my rucksack. No sooner had I said that then we'd bought our tickets and were in the Algarve.

I had to give my Mum a ring and explained where we were and she didn't seem to mind, and I told her that we were only away for a long weekend. How sad is it that even in my dreams I only go away for long weekends.

We were now at the hotel and I was stressing about not having anything packed with us but I did have a few things in my rucksack, anf thought we could buy the rest if we needed it. I started to look on the bright side and was really happy to have done such an impulsive thing that didn't seem to have any consequences. Here I was on holiday!!!

It was then that I thought about the dream from the previous evening, and my dream of the shark. Shit I thought, how weird is that that I could dream of the Algarve and then the next day actually be here. It seriously got me scared and I thought that I couldn't really go near the water as maybe the previous dream was fate telling me something, and it seemed that I was walking straight into its path.

So here I am in a dream and analysing a dream from a previous night. weird.

And then that's where it ended. We'll have to see if another installment has been commissioned.

I'm in the phone booth, it's the one across the hall

Thanks to the wonder of technology I've just had a chat with Ginny using Skype. I've been a visitor to 'A Long Way from Om' for quite a while and love hearing about life in Canada. I've been using Skype for quite a while but only usually really use it for instant messaging, which is very informal, and the only person I usually call is Phil.

Well Ginny got her Skype working and so we just had a 10 minute chat, over 4700 miles apart, and 8 hours time difference apart.

Amazing, and really good to put a voice to a name [although shh *looks over shoulder* ...... I knew what she sounded like anyway.]

If everybody had an ocean

Well after last nights rubbish post about beaches and holidays, I actually dreamt that I was on a beach in the Algarve. Everything was going well, and I was on the beach taking some excellent pictures using a disposable camera of friends mucking around, where after every picture I had to load the film on, just like in the olden days. My attention was distracted to further out to sea where a lot of boats had gathered. At first what was in the water appeared to be a dolphin but soon I realised it was a shark!

Everyone was scrambling out of the water, but suddenly a shadow appeared and a girl got her leg bitten but she managed to get to dry land. I went to help her but she didn't want any help and was more angry at being attacked. She only had a flesh wound.

Weird dreams eh? I suppose it was actually a pretty normal dream compared to some of the others we have which actually make no sense whatsoever. I think I'll decide not to interpret this dream as I think it was just where my mind was when I went to sleep, with no underlying messages hidden in it. Unless of course it means something bad is going to happen!! Watch this space.

Fun and sunshine, there's enough for everyone

I've just finished work at the Students' Union and have got work at the pub this evening, but this afternoon I'm just chilling, although I do feel that maybe I should be doing something more productive. I've just been flicking channels on the old gogglebox, and there isn't really much on, although I did get a memory jog when Sky Travel were featuring Portugal, and in particular Albufeira, where I went on holiday in 2002. Nice place.

Just thought I'd mention it. Now to do something important.....ho hum.

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man

I've just finished playing in an online poker tournament with Ladbrokes Poker. I just finished 3rd out of 39 entrants, which I thought wasn't that bad. I sometimes play online in small games which you can leave at anytime but this one was a proper one with a buy-in and a prize fund. It wasn't a big one, just $2 to buy-in and the winner gets to play in a larger tournament with a very large prize fund. The runner up got $62, whichI just missed out on.

I wouldn't recommend online poker to those with an addictive nature, but I enjoy it and play it only if I get bored. So I'm a few dollars lighter now but that's a few hours wasted away.

No doubt I'll be broke the next time I post, homeless and with the bailiffs after me! ;)

I've also been watching the Kerrang 2006 Rock 100 [via The Hits on freeview] which has been on for the last 8 hours !! Some great videos.

Woman please let me explain

Here's a handy explanation for the summer for all the women out there:

You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shop assistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which you must have.

The female shopper in front of you has seen them also and is eyeing them with desire.

Both of you have forgotten your purses.

It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had no money to pay for the shoes.

The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.

Your friend is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma.

She prepares to throw her purse to you.

If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopper and buy the shoes.

At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and, *whilst it is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse and buy the shoes.

Always remembering that until the purse had *actually been thrown* it would be plain wrong to be forward of the other shopper.

See below............

Congratulations! - you have just learned the offside rule!

No offence meant as I know there's quite a few women out there who know a lot more than some of us guys.

It's a kind of magic - Update

Here's the video of the Diet Coke and Mentos experiment from last night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Jv7rl1KDkY

Go, put your records on, tell me your favourite song.

I spotted this here, here, and here. It's quite hard to think of all the albums that have influenced your life, and I'm sure I've missed loads out that haven't sprung to mind just yet. Feel free to have a go yourselves.

It's a kind of magic

Yesterday I was browsing through Youtube and came across several videos labeled along the lines of 'coke and mentos experiment' and decided to see what all the fuss was about. [click here for video link fixed now].

Absolutely amazing, and when I went to the pub last night to see the Arsenal vs Villarreal game and also to celebrate Dan and Andy's birthday I had to tell everyone about it. Some were a bit dubious and some were trying to figure out why it happened involving various theories to do with sugar content, acid/alkali reactions ,etc.

People had to see it for themselves so at the end of the match I popped over to the 24 hour Budgens and picked up a 2 litre bottle of Diet Coke and a roll of Mentos. A gang of us went out to the carpark and it was here that history would take place. If you've looked at the linked video you'll see what the reaction is, and there has to be some good timing to get all the mentos in the bottle without getting yourself covered in coke, so I fashioned a tube from a piece of paper and used a beermat as a release mechanism so that I could pull the beermat away, the methos would drop ,and the fun would commence.

Everything went to plan although the stream was only about 4 foot tall. Excellent fun and when I got home I had to find out why it happened, and found this page. It details how to do the experiment and the reasons behind it.

Have fun kids.

What is game? Who got game ?

As mentioned here, it was the annual Rugby Sevens charity tournament at the Thanet Wanderers ground on Good Friday.

Quite a few of the teams wear fancy dress for the event and so I'd spent the Thursday finishing off the American football tops that the team were going to wear [T-shirts from Matalan and T-shirt transfers from Tesco], bought the beers and some snacks, and so on the Friday morning everything was ready......almost. I still needed some tight leggings to finish off the outfit. Ian and myself went up to TK Maxx and bought some fetching ladies leggings that were lovely and tight. Excellent.

[someone stuck some socks down the front of their pants...... ummm]

On the day we had quite a few drop out due to injuries or other commitments and so we were down to bare bones and lost our first game 42-0 but weren't too despondent as last year we'd won our first game 45-0 and our opponents this game were all very BIG players. It did hurt, although I was quite happy to get a few tackles in.

A couple of other players turned up for the second game and we lost that one 10-5. Dammit! We didn't really mind losing as the actual playing is only a small part of the day and there was lots of it left. The girls had arrived with a picnic, and we had plenty of beers, and so the future looked bright.

Sadly I'd started feeling a bit iffy early in the afternoon and had only had a few bottles of lager, and so stuck to the water and diet coke. At the end of the tournament [around 7pm] everyone decided to move on into Broadstairs town but I really wasn't feeling well and decided to go home. I was annoyed at not being able to go out but actually went to sleep from 8pm 'till 8am! I think I really must have needed it.

I think I'd caught some kind of stomach bug and have not touched alcohol since, and it's not been too bad. There was meant to be a real ale festival on the Saturday but it was cancelled after they an out of beer of Friday night, so there was no temptation there, and on the other nights I just stuck to the squash. I feel better now.

It's been nice to have the week off and I return to work tomorrow....argghhh!!!!

Cool for cats

There is one site I visit that always brings a smile to my face and that site is......[drum roll]

I'd recommend it to all cat lovers, so why not check it out.
